Where we'll marry

Taj Bekal Resort & Spa, Kerala

Twenty-six green acres where the Kappil backwaters meet the Arabian Sea — houseboat-inspired roofs, palm gardens, and water wherever you look.

Come for the wedding, stay for Bekal.

This is a quiet corner of Kerala most people never reach — and it’s easy to miss if you fly in just for the day. Arrive a little early or linger a little after; you’ll be glad you did. The wedding is the reason we’re gathering; Bekal is the bonus.

Things to do in Bekal

Bekal sits in Kasaragod, Kerala's quiet northern tip — forts on the sea, emerald backwaters and hill trails, with far fewer crowds than the south. Here's what's worth your time, whether you have a spare hour between celebrations or a whole extra day.

Close by — easy between events
~10 min · 1–2 hrs

Bekal Fort

Kerala's largest fort — over 300 years old, built of laterite stone and wrapped by the sea on three sides. Climb the observation tower, find the "holes in the wall" the soldiers watched from, and stay for sunset. Open 8 AM–5 PM, nominal entry.

Beside the resort

Kappil Beach

Quiet sand and low dunes right next to the gardens, where the backwater slips into the Arabian Sea. Perfect for an early walk or a sundowner.

~10 min

Bekal Fort Beach

The palm-lined beach beneath the fort, with a seaside tree-house pavilion (the eru madam) for catching the breeze. Famous from many a film song.

Half day

Backwater houseboat cruise

Drift through the backwaters on a traditional kettuvallam past coconut groves, thatched homes and little islands. The resort can arrange it for you.

Worth the drive
~40 min · sunset

Chandragiri Fort

A 17th-century hilltop fort above the Chandragiri river, looking out to the Arabian Sea. A local favourite for golden-hour views and gentle boat rides on the river below.

~45 min

Ananthapura Lake Temple

The only lake temple in Kerala, set in the middle of its own water, and known for the resident crocodile said to guard it. Serene and unusual.

~1 hr · half day

Valiyaparamba backwaters

Kerala's third-largest backwater stretch, fed by four rivers and scattered with tiny islets — wonderful for a slow cruise, kayaking or birdwatching, with far fewer boats than Alleppey.

Winter evenings

Theyyam performance

North Kerala's electric ritual dance — towering costumes, drums and fire — performed in village temples through the winter season. Ask locally; catching one is unforgettable.

For the adventurous
~1.5–2 hrs · full day

Ranipuram Hills

Called the "Ooty of Kerala" — grasslands, shola forest and cool air at around 750 m, with trails that merge into the Western Ghats. A proper day out for hikers.

~2 hrs · full day

Kottancheri Hills

The wilder neighbour of Ranipuram, part of the same sanctuary — dense rainforest, streams and trekking for those who want the Ghats to themselves.

Distances are rough driving times from the resort. Tell us on the travel form if you'd like help arranging cars or a guided day out.

Everything for getting here

Getting to Bekal

Bekal has no airport of its own, so you'll fly into one of three nearby ones and drive the rest. Mangalore is closest and easiest for most guests.

By road

Mangalore is about an hour to an hour and ten from the resort. We're arranging the airport–venue drive for guests, so you won't need to sort a taxi. Just tell us your flight (in your RSVP or travel details) — especially if you're not on the earliest flight — and we'll have a car meet you.

By train

Kanhangad and Kasaragod stations are about 20–30 minutes from the resort, on the Mangalore–Kozhikode line — handy if you're already travelling through by rail.

Questions

What should I wear?

Each celebration has a light suggestion on the Itinerary page. Across the weekend our palette is heirloom garden — earthy browns, ivory, gold and vintage florals. Lean into it if you like, but wear what makes you feel wonderful.

What's the weather, and what should I pack?

Late November in Bekal is warm and coastal — roughly 25–32°C and humid, usually dry. Pack light breathable fabrics, sunscreen, and comfortable footwear for garden and beach ground.

How do I get there?

Fly into Mangalore (IXE), Kannur (CNN) or Kozhikode (CCJ), then drive to the resort. The Getting there page has flight options, live fares and a form to let us book for you — and please book early, seats are limited.

When should I plan to arrive?

Most guests fly in on the morning of the 19th — rooms are ready from around 10–11 AM and the Haldi begins at 12:30 PM, so aim for an early flight to be settled in time. Your stay from the 19th is on us, so there’s nothing to book. The welcome dinner on the 18th is entirely optional; if you’d like to arrive that night, just let us know and we’ll block the 18th for you too.

What is there to do around Bekal?

Plenty — the fort, quiet beaches, backwater cruises, hilltop sunsets and more. See the Things to do page for a full guide.

Can I bring my children?

Little ones are welcome. Tick "travelling with an infant" on the travel form, or add a note on your RSVP so we can plan for them.

What about gifts?

Your being there is the gift — truly. If you'd still like to mark the day, a note is always treasured; ask us and we'll point you gently in the right direction.
